What is a mangaka?
Have you ever watched shows like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Doraemon? Do you know who made them? The people behind these amazing stories and pictures are called manga artists or mangaka. They write the story, create the characters and draw the pictures for the manga.
The term “mangaka” is a combination of two parts: “manga” and “ka.” “Manga” refers to the medium of art used by the artist, which could mean comics or Japanese comics depending on the context in which the term is used.
The “-ka” suffix connotes a level of mastery and traditional authorship. It should not be applied to a writer who creates a story that is later illustrated by a manga artist. In Japan, such a writer would be referred to as a “gensaku-sha.” “Geijutsuka” is also a commonly used term for mangaka, which translates to “artist” in the literal sense.
Each manga artist has a unique way of drawing and making stories. Some work alone, others with a team. They also work with people who help make their manga famous by publishing and promoting it.
If you want to be a manga artist, you should study art, storytelling, and Japanese culture. It’s also important to practice your skills a lot to get better. Being a manga artist is a cool job and it’s fun to create stories and pictures that people all over the world can enjoy!
